CLEAN RIVERS TO CLEAN THE OCEANS

Rivers are the blue arteries of our planet. However, many of the world’s rivers and streams are severely affected by pollution, with plastic being one of the major culprits. To limit the amount of plastic pollution beyond the reach or capacity of ocean collection and recycling efforts, we must remove it before it gets there. We believe that education and awareness, supportimg sutainable practices, and actively cleaning our rivers are the most effective ways to stop plastic pollution from getting to the oceans, and giving ocean cleanup activities a fighting chance of success.

Think Ocean, after extensive study of exlogies, have developed a “Stop at Source Technology” which research and modelling shows can capture up to 92% of the surface AND underwater plastic in a river. This reduces plastic debris, micro-plastic and other pollutants BEFORE they reach the ocean.

The collector is scientifically designed to be cost effective, using existing off the shelf readily available components, and containerised for easy transport, that allows it to be deployed at scale.

Our goal is for thousands of these units to be deployed across the planet through open-source technology. It has a supporting ecosystem of education programmes, (schools and civil society), around plastic, why removal is essential and the creation of local, circular economy supply chains to ensure that plastic collected is upcycled.

OUR PARTNERS

Think Ocean is a partner of the European Commission “Horizon Mission” and we are exploring working with Derby University, (the home of innovative engineering in the UK), with technical collaboration from Severn Trent a leading UK water company and the Environment Agency. Prototypes and pre-production units will be deployed in the UK, (Derby), in Q2 of 2024, then Europe, (initially Serbia with 40 other locations planned), from Q4 of 2024 and during 2025 – 2030.
